Misfit Memory Work: Challenging Sexism and Ableism in K-12 Self-Portraiture Lessons

This presentation aims to challenge gendered ableist assumptions about female students' bodymind in K-12 self-portraiture lessons. Based on themisfit theory from feminist disability studies, this presentation explores the researcher's memories of being misfitted as a female student with scars and illness and the K-12 self-portraiture lessons that idealize able-bodied femininity.
